"A Pinned Map of Unconventional Truths" Is an installation of 5 large 11' x 4' panels resting on their own weight side-by-side diagonally across the entire length of the shipping container. The panels are tilled with boards stabbed with evenly spaced "T" pins creating a Gall-Peters World Map projection on the entire 20' x 11' surface area. This world map will be displayed opposite from the conventional configuration, picturing the artic at the bottom of the map.
By inverting the conventional depiction of the world map and using the Gall-Peters projection, the installation presents the world conceptually and visually inverted. For millennia, maps have given humanity a perspective of the world, unfortunately, the depiction of the world with widely used projections, like the Mercator Projection, has subconsciously reinforced ideas (through visual means) of superiority from northern hemispherical countries. Consequentially, these iniquitous objects have inadvertently fuel biases that produce discrimination towards migrants, especially those from southern countries.
